    An emergency session of the AKC has been convened, and little wooden brandy kegs on leather neck bands are being issued to all interested neighborhood canvassing volunteers in the 'Save Winkelstone' campaign.

      Oh yes...and the St. Bernard breeders association has a team of huge St. B's on stand-by to quell anti-dog protesters by sitting on them. 

      In the meantime, there is a letter writing campaign by Ms. Winkelstone's followers to the Pope, asking Rome to nominate her dog Willie for sainthood and offering proof of several miracles Willie has performed, in order to offset the charges of Willie being a demon dog.

    Merlot is a color, named after a wine. A merlot surface would be a wine-red geometric plane.

    You are joking, of course. "comas' are what Hosni Mubarak has been lingering in, whereas 'commas' are grammatical 'stops' as Fowler beautifully calls these punctuation marks. Commas--that is surely what you meant?

    "Such as I" sounds stilted, though it is technically correct ("such as I am"). It seems to me more euphonious to use "for readers like me." But that's just I.

    Idea: Make up people who write letters and blog posts protesting your book. It's an absolute deception lacking all ethics, but even if unraveled the new story loops might keep on selling your book. Karma might eat your lunch, but at least you'll sell copies.

      Sounds like something the Onion would do. They have about half a dozen snapshots of people, which they endlessly reuse with various names, job descriptions, and comments...i.e, Mrs. Wilma Merlot, dog walker, Brooklyn: "I feel that book burning will add to global warming, so I feel lukewarm about it. But it's a great conversation starter on hangover mornings."

      I have heard of some authors who have made up people to write good reviews and post them on Amazon. So maybe it could work in reverse. Either way, karma will end up being a b---h!

    I think a book burning stunt would make great publicity for my book....hmmmm that'll at least get the kids interested.  next gen interest is a great start
