CAN YOU BE A SPOKESPERSON?

Maybe some of us should and can expand our thinking. Instead of just think about the book, maybe think about its primary subject and purpose, and how you can maybe be a spokesperson about that. That way you and the subject are the story and the book rides your coattails in the media. Has anyone done this?

  • This is a great IDEA, study of some of the greats like Apple, The Wright Bros. and others show "People Don't Buy What You Do.... They Buy WHY You Do It! Go to: http://www.facebook.com/#!/AdBlastMarketing to see the video. So get out there and let people know WHY!!!

    Happy Writing

    Bob

    • OK Bob. "WHY" did the Wright Brothers invent the first airplane and how did that translate into the reason why they got their first contracts?

    • I have not read about the Wright boys, but I'm not sure they did invent the first plane; I think it was Leonardo Da Vinchi. But they may have been the first to get a commercial result for their creation.

  • Follow the media and submit responses. And also submit ideas for fresh stories.

  • Yes, that's what I'm doing. It's not necessarily the book that's going to be promoted, but the subject. And it's far more common that people want to admit -- it's something we think people don't want to talk about, but I'm finding that everywhere I go, there are people who want and need to talk about it.

    • Monique, what's the subject? I think today's world needs new subjects, or at least a fresh spin on the old ones.

    • Old subject: mental illness, but from the perspective of both the person with mental illness and the caregiver, with both contributing material to the book. It's about what we do for those we love, and finding hope to hang onto in the worst of times. I'm very happy with the reviews so far.

  • A critical component to being a spokesperson is to be passionate. Passion drives us and attracts others.

  • It's probably a good idea to join a local Toastmasters.
