Book Trailers or Trailer Trash?

While putting together a "book trailer" for our new project, I looked at trailers by other authors. I found one I really liked by an author I had never read before. Must have worked. I bought the book. (Ron Tanner, From Animal House to our House, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx2nt7SRg58).

The elements that worked for me were humor, brevity, good visuals, and interesting story (of course).

Has anyone run across trailers they thought were well done? Any insights gleaned while putting together your own book trailer(s)? Do you think they are effective or inappropriate?

  • Very cool and intriguing. Look forward to seeing the next one.

  • This is the book trailer to my latest novel:

I also started a series of author trailers for the book explaining the inspiration behind the book. Here is the first one:

    • Aya- Thank you for posting your book trailers. It is so interesting to see different approaches. I think the story behind the story is a good way to go. WAE can be a great forum for generating feedback from other authors and experts.

    • Here's the second one.

    • Thanks, Candace. I am planning a whole series of the story behind the story.

    • Aya- If you use video again in your next trailer, would love to see upgraded photography. Could you borrow a flip/video camera? I think the video didn't do you justice. Hope I didn't overstep here.

    • I do this on purpose. I was back-lit, and this created a kind of halo effect and did not show too much about my features. I don't wear makeup, and it's not always a pretty look. I want people to concentrate on my words and not my appearance.

I'm in a cage with a chimpanzee most of the day. The next video will show him, too.

  • Since you showed me yours, I'll show you mine. Feedback appreciated. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVufwn7AAKU&feature=channel&...

  • Nice Job. Made me smile - had a positive reaction. Feedback? Perhaps you might want to slow down the pacing a bit. A few more seconds (not much) on each haiku would have let me absorb the message more. The pairing of the images with the poems was very good. Congratulations.

  • Check out freeplaymusic.com. Free. Nice selection. They request you give them credit. Let us know when you've finished your trailer. Good luck.
